First, it is important to understand how an engine functions under different temperature conditions.
When temperatures drop to 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) the fluidity of normal engine oil begins to deteriorate.
When this happens, the engine oil is unable to quickly and effectively lubricate the main parts of the engine when cold starting. This lack of lubrication is hard on the engine and can lead to premature engine wear.
When the temperature drops to 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) the fluidity of normal grade engine oil becomes even worse and the metal parts within the engine begin to suffer from the effects of thermal expansion and contraction due to temperature differentials between parts.
Starting the engine at this low of a temperature will not only begin to cause wear to engine parts, but will also increase fuel consumption and the emission of pollutants.
When the temperature drops to 0 degrees Celsius(32 degrees Fahrenheit) only low viscosity engine oil should be used. The thermal expansion and contraction stresses on the engine is further increased and the batteries reactive chemical processes and power begins to decline.
When the temperature drops below -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit) low viscosity engine oil begins to also suffer from fluidity problems, and the thermal expansion and contraction of engine parts is even further increased causing even greater engine wear.
The battery’s power is also decreased so much so that it can begin to have difficulty sending sufficient power to the starter to rotate the camshaft. This often requires multiple attempts from the driver to start the vehicle.
If you continue to cold start the vehicle under these conditions you will begin to notice a significant increase in fuel consumption.
In addition, every time you attempt to start the vehicle and fail, there will be black incompletely burned fuel that is discharged into the air with the exhaust gas causing pollution to environmental air quality.
Under normal temperature conditions, it only takes the engine a short amount of time to get up to efficient operating temperatures.
However, under low temperature conditions it may take more than 10 for the engine to reach proper operating temperature and provide heat to the passenger cabin using a standard car heating system.
Drivers in this situation either resort to driving with bulky heavy winter clothing which inhibits reaction times and comfort, or they start the car and let it idle in place for 10 minutes in order to let the engine temperature rise and the heater to warm the passenger cabin.
Repeatedly starting the engine in this fashion increases both fuel consumption and engine wear.
When the temperature drops to -20 degrees Celsius or below (-4 degrees Fahrenheit) the thermal expansion and contraction effects on engine parts becomes quite severe.
Some engines (especially diesel engines) will not be able to operate normally if auxiliary heating equipment is not employed.
Battery power becomes severely decreased without aide from an auxiliary heating device, and after several cold start attempts there may exist insufficient power to start the engine anymore.
Even if the engine is successfully started, the great degree of thermal expansion and contraction within it will cause severe wear and tear on engine parts.
This is one of the reasons for the high failure rate of vehicles driven in the winter.
By simply installing an engine heater all of these negative effects from cold starting can be mitigated. The heater will allow the engine to quickly reach operating temperatures permitting oil to efficiently flow throughout the engine and lubricate the engines pistons and piston rings.
In addition, it will reduce fuel consumption and pollution on start up and the wear and tear that occurs from repeatedly cold starting a vehicle.
The benefits of installing an engine heater can save drivers thousands of dollars in engine damage.
All in all, that’s why we need an engine heater or engine block heater to warm up the engine at low temperatures to protect the engine from much wear and also save much cost.
After heating up the engine, the engine temperature will rise, and then the oil will thaw; the oil will return back to normal fluidity, and the cooperation between the engine parts such as the engine piston and the piston ring will start to work normally again.
Meanwhile, the engine start is restored to work normally too.
In this way, with the engine heater, customers can save a lot of fuel consumption and reduce a lot of exhausted gas pollution.
Moreover, the failure rate of the vehicle start in winter will greatly reduce.
Using engine heaters can help drivers save more than $5,000 per year including various vehicle costs.
So in the following, we will have a brief introduction of different types of engine heaters.
Engine heaters can be roughly divided into three categories:
First one is the fuel heater, or we can say fuel coolant heater or coolant heater.
It’s a kind of heater that heats up the engine’s coolant by burning diesel.
The advantages of the coolant heater is that it can work without an external power supply and it’s very fuel-economical, which only consumes 0.5L per hour.
The minimum power of the coolant heater is 5 KW, a large amount of heat can be generated, so it works better and is more efficient than the parking heater series VVKB Apollo-V series.
When the coolant heater is working, the engine and the entire circulation system can be heated to more than 30 degrees Celsius.
In this way, when turning on the vehicle’s own heating system, it can provide enough heat for the driving cabin as well as sleeping cabin, completely solving the problem of the heating issue when parking in the cold winter, and can keep providing heat and warmth for the engine.
The VVKB coolant heater Apollo-C series have passed CE, RoHS, FCC certification.
We select advanced technology and good raw material for parts to support the quality of our coolant heater. The heater works with 32-bit chip control system, making the operation smoother and faster.
The main heater and the control panel are using CAN communication technology, which makes every working step more accurate.
The motor speed reaches 9000 revolutions per minute. Using a spiral exhaust pipe, the working noise can be greatly decreased.
The rated voltage of VVKB Apollo-C series is 12V or 24V, while their rated power varies to suitable for different kinds of sizes and to achieve different requirements from different customer.
Therefore, VVKB Apollo-C series have 5KW, 9KW and 12KW.
VVKB Apollo-C series is suitable for a wide range of vehicles, such as trucks, construction vehicles, large tractors, etc.
Besides warming up the engine parts and vehicle cabin, VVKB Apollo-C series can also heat up water, so can provide hot water for people to daily use.
The pipes and radiators can be connected with a heated liquid to provide heat to the room or any special space.
The second type of engine heater is the engine heater with the electric heating tube.
According to different structures and designation, this kind of engine heater can again be divided into following three types.
Auxiliary circulating engine heater with built-in pump.
Here we have VVKB heater products — VVKB Titan series
They are kind of engine heaters with built-in pumps, those we can also call them engine preheaters.
It needs to use an external power supply.
When the electric heating tube is heating, the built-in water pump can deliver the heated coolant to the engine to provide heat to the engine.
To guarantee the safety issue, the VVKB engine preheater Titan series also has a temperature control system in the heater.
When the temperature reaches 65 degree Celsius, the built-in pump will stop working and the heating function of the engine preheater will also stop working, while when the temperature is below 45 degree Celsius, the built-in pump and the heater will automatically start to work again.
However, considering that some customers need the pump to work all the time, VVKB can also provide the customers with a semi-customized heater that can keep the built-in pump working all the time.
VVKB engine preheaters all have passed TUV, CE, FCC, RoHS certification.
Compared to other types of plug-in engine heaters, VVKB engine preheaters warm up the engine faster, have higher heat efficiency and also is much safer.
Thermal cycling engine heater (VVKB engine heater Titan-P6)
VVKB winter car heater Titan-P6 is different from other VVKB engine heaters. It does not have a built-in pump, so it is completely thermally cycling one.
It has a check valve design to prevent heated liquid from flowing back. But VVKB winter car heater Titan-P6 is also somewhere similar as other VVKB engine heaters— it also has a temperature sensor inside the heater.
When the temperature reaches 65 degrees Celsius, the heater will stop working automatically. When the temperature is below 45 degrees Celsius, it will automatically start working again.
This temperature sensor design is to guarantee the safety when using the heater.
By using the electric heating tube as heating elements, VVKB winter car Titan-P6 can warm up the engine quickly with high heating efficiency.
Embedded heater (VVKB engine heater Titan-P7, P8)
This kind of VVKB engine heater is just installed on the engine block, which directly heats the coolant.
It has a simple structure, without the built-in pump, no outer housing, no temperature controller inside the heater, and it usually has low rated power, such as400W.
The third type of engine heater is PTC engine heater.
VVKB engine heater Titan-B series uses PTC as the heating element, and it also have the built-in circulation pump. PTC heating element itself is the temperature sensor.
When the temperature reaches what we have set, the PTC heating element will automatically reduce the power; thus the heater will turn into lower power to work.
As we can see, PTC engines will become the new trend in engine heaters field. VVKB has been developing PTC heating elements in the automotive field since 2010 and successfully designed Titan-B1 engine heater in 2016. It now has obtained EU patent, German patent and TUV certification.
At present, VVKB is again investing a lot in PTC field, especially studying with PTC’s performance and applications.
VVKB has already designed a new engine heater that is now undergoing the working test and maybe will launch to the market in 2019 or 2020.
We are confident it can revolutionize the production of automotive engine heaters.
In the following several paragraphs, we mainly introduce different models of VVKB engine heaters.
During the 20 years of engine heater production and sales, VVKB has accumulated a lot of experience and obtained a lot of customers’ needs and feedback from the market.
According to those requirements and feedbacks from different customers, VVKB starts to focus more on the products itself, trying to make more progress to improve it.
At the same time, VVKB has also seen the irreversible impact on the environment from people’s production activities.
Since 2012, VVKB has been looking for new heating elements with better heating efficiency and more environmentally friendly that can replace the traditional heating tubes.
At the beginning of the selection, VVKB found that there were many materials that can replace original electric heating tubes.
However, with a depth of research and lots of test, we found that most of the alternative materials are not competent.
They can be easily affected or broken under the harsh environment. In an accidental situation, VVKB engineers were exposed to PTC ceramics and start to test its performance and function.
After several times discussions among engineer, they reach an agreement that PTC ceramics can be used to replace the original heating tubes in engine heaters.
After four years of research and practical testing, at last, we launched a new engine heater called VVKB Titan-B1 engine preheater in 2016.
VVKB Titan-B1 engine preheater uses PTC ceramics as heating elements, which can heat up the engine parts so quickly.
With the built-in magnetic water pump, VVKB Titan-B1 engine preheater can greatly improve heat efficiency, and reduce the heat loss.
PTC, as the heating element, has a special characteristic– after reaching the certain temperature, the resistance of the PTC ceramic will be greatly increased.
In this way, the heater power decreases.
And because of this characteristics, it does not require a built-in temperature sensor anymore.
And this simple structure makes VVKB Titan-B1 engine preheater service life be greatly extended. VVKB Titan-B1 engine preheater has already passed TUV, CE, RoHS, FCC certifications.
We will not stop our step, VVKB engineers have still been developing products that are more in line with user habits and requirements.
It is expected that in 2019 or 2020 that VVKB will introduce a new engine heater, allowing users to enjoy better and better warmth of VVKB.

We are now providing our heaters for some companies who produce the electric vehicles.
VVKB Titan-P1 car engine heater, with built-in water pump, it has a compact structure with lightweight.
It is easy to install, only need to cut off a coolant water pipe in the vehicle warm air system, and connect the heater in series to the cooling cycle.
Make sure to discharge the air inside the heater and heater pipeline before starting to work.
Then the heater can work normally. VVKB Titan-P1 car engine heater consists of an electric heating tube, a built-in water pump, temperature sensors, and wires for connection.
In order to control the temperature more precisely and accurately, we have designed two separate temperature sensor on the VVKB Titan-P1 car engine heater, to make the operation more reliable and safe.

Based on the VVKB’s more than 10 years of market experience and feedback from customers, and some shortcomings from the former products, VVKB design team improved and designed the new VVKB Titan-P3 diesel engine preheater in 2008 with reference to the working principle of the heating system on rice cooker.
The heating element of VVKB Titan-P3 diesel engine preheater is die-cast in a monolithic aluminum ingot, which can effectively increase the service life of the heating element.
What’s more, VVKB Titan-P3 diesel engine preheater has inherited all advantages of VVKB other engine heaters — with built-in water pump as well as high quality aluminum outer casing.
In order to control the temperature more precisely and accurately, we have designed two separately thermostat control/ temperature sensor on the VVKB Titan-P3 diesel engine preheater, to make the operation more reliable and safe.
That means once the first temperature sensor falls faulty, the second one will keep working.
The 90 degrees angle between the water outlet and the inlet allows VVKB Titan-P3 diesel engine preheater to be easily placed in the compact engine compartment.
